Tao Ren is sweet, bitter, and neutral. It enters the liver, lung, large intestine, and heart systems. Its effect on the liver improves blood flow to the uterus for menstrual pathologies and rib side pain. It lung properties allows it to treat cough and wheezing. It enters the large intestine to treat constipation especially when it is dry hard stool. Its affinity to the heart makes Tao Ren useful for such conditions as angina pain.

Tao Ren is often combined with Hong Hua.
