Chuan Niu Xi is sweet bitter and neutral. It enters the liver and kidney systems to circulate blood and move out wind-damp patterns.
The effect of Chuan Niu Xi on muscle atrophy and spasm is primarily on the lower limbs. Its sweet property likely nourishes liver blood, which improves strength and flexibility of tendons and ligaments, and also support sex hormone regulation from the adrenal glands and gonads.
The bitter property has a draining effect on the lower jiao which helps conditions of the bladder such as painful urinary dribbling. It is better than Huai Niu Xi for moving qi and blood downward.
