Bai Guo enters the lung and kidney. Its effect is primarily seen on the lungs when there is a productive cough or wheeze with phlegm that is originating from a deficiency pattern. The root cause of the deficiency will still need to be treated by other herbs but Bai Guo will help to stabilize the lung and reduce the symptoms.

Its kidney function is related to adrenal gland hormones and possibly hormones from the gonads. Its sweet property gives it a nourishing function in this area of the body.

Bai Guo’s kidney relationship also allows it to treat urinary disorders of incontinence with its astringent function.
