Qin Jiao is acrid, bitter, and slightly cold. It enters the liver and gallbladder systems as well as the stomach. By improving the function of the gallbladder, this herb helps patients with constipation. The acrid and bitter characteristics help the liver detoxify and treat such pathologies as hepatitis and systemic liver related swelling that cause joint pain and spasms.
