Chen Pi is acrid, bitter, aromatic, and warm. It enters the stomach, lung, and spleen systems. Chen Pi is an important herb to treat indigestion and to help relieve discomfort of taking herbs that are cloying.

Contraindications: do not prescribe Chen Pi to patients that have cough due to yin or qi deficiency, do not use long term and should be used cautiously when prescribing to patients with patterns of heat from excess
