Hai Tong Pi is acrid, bitter, and neutral. It enters the liver and kidney systems. Although it is neutral, its greatest effect is on patterns of dampness originating from heat. It treats the lower half of the body especially well and can even be used in cases of damp heat in the lower jiao.
Topically it is used for bug bites, scabies, skin sores and can be gargled when a patient has a toothache.
