# Yi Zhi Ren

### Alpiniae oxyphyllae Fructus

_acrid, warm_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Tonify Yang**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
- Spermatorrhea
- Frequent urination
- Urinary incontinence
- Irregular uterine bleeding
- Excess bad tasting salivation
- Vomiting

Yi Zhi Ren enters the spleen and kidney systems. Its warming
function improves pancreatic secretion of enzymes and stomach
production of hydrochloric acid. This improves digestion for
cases of vomiting or diarrhea that are from cold deficiency or
excess patterns. Yi Zhi Ren is unique in that it has a restraining
function although it is not categorized as having this function.
In the kidney system, the tonifying function improves adrenal and
gonadal production of sex hormones to treat erectile issues,
bladder and kidney issues, and vaginal discharge related to cold
deficiency patterns.

- Diarrhea
- Urinary incontinence
- Fecal incontinence
- Urinary dribbling

**Formulas:**
- Bi Xie Feng Qing Yin
- Suo Quan Wan
- Tu Si Zi Wan

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Yi Zhi Ren to patients
that have heat patterns in the lower jiao
