# Xuan Shen

### Scrophulariae Radix

_bitter, sweet, salty, cold_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Clears Heat and Cools the Blood**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Fever
- Dry mouth
- Purple tongue
- Bleeding disorders
- Irritability
- Constipation
- Lumps in the neck
- Sore throat

Xuan Shen is salty, sweet, bitter, and cold. It enters the stomach,
kidney, and lung systems. Its sweet characteristic nourishes the yin
while the bitter property combined with cold drains fire.
