# Xu Duan

### Dispaci Radix

_acrid, bitter, sweet, slightly warm_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Tonify Yang**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Low back pain
- Weakness and stiffness of joints
- Threatened miscarriage
- Uterine bleeding
- Vaginal discharge
- Pain and swelling from trauma
- Urinary dribbling

Xu Duan improves blood circulation and is slightly warm which
helps cold arthritic patterns and soft tissue traumas. It can also
ease a restless fetus that is threatening to miscarry if the
underlying pattern is cold in the uterus.
It enters the liver and kidney system with a sweet quality to
nourish hormone production from the adrenal glands.

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Xu Duan to patients that
present with wind-damp-heat patterns
