# Xiang Fu

### Cyperi Rhizoma

_acrid, slightly bitter, slightly sweet, neutral_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Regulate Qi**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Hypochondriac pain
- Epigastric distention
- Dysmenorrhea
- Irregular menses

Xiang Fu is acrid, slightly bitter, slightly sweet, and neutral. It
enters the liver, gallbladder, and san jiao systems. It is considered
the #1 herb for gynecological disorders when liver qi has become
stagnant. Its effect on the liver allows it to treat many patterns
that involve liver overacting on spleen.

**Channels:** liver, gallbladder, san jiao

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Xiang Fu to patients
with qi deficiency patterns when there are no signs of stagnation,
do not prescribe to patients with deficiency heat or blood level
heat
