# Xian Mao

### Curculiginis Rhizoma

_acrid, hot, toxic_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

- Irregular menses
- Erectile dysfunction
- Urinary incontinence
- Infertility
- Nocturnal emissions
- Low back pain

Xiao Mao is hot and toxic. The acrid property scatters the cold
and circulates the blood. Because it is hot it is very useful for
stubborn cold patterns especially of the low back. It can also be
used for infertility when the womb is cold.

Xiao Mao enters the kidney and improves sex hormone regulation
from the adrenal glands and gonads. However, it is toxic and
should only be used for short periods of time.

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Xiao Mao long term, do
not prescribe to patients that have heat patterns from yin
deficiency
