# Xi Yang Shen

### Panacis Quinquefolii Radix

_sweet, slightly bitter, cold_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Tonify Yin**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Fever
- Weakness
- Irritability
- Thirst
- Coughing blood
- Wheezing
- Cough
- Loss of voice

Xi Yang Shen is sweet, slightly bitter, and cold. It enters the lung,
heart, and kidney systems to treat yin deficiency patterns.

**Channels:** lung, heart, kidney

COMMON APPLICATIONS AND CLINICAL
POSSIBILITIES:

Perimenopausal symptoms
- Hot flash
- Night sweats
- Fatigue
- Diminished libido
- Cough

**Formulas:**
- Mai Men Dong Tang
- Qing Shu Yi Qi Tang

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Xi Yang Shen to patients
that present with cold dampness in the middle jiao
