# Shi Hu

### Dendrobii Herba

_sweet, slightly salty, bland, slightly cold_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Tonify Yin**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Parched mouth
- Severe thirst
- Fever
- Sore throat
- Red tongue without coat
- Poor vision
- Low back pain
- Dizziness

Shi Hu is sweet, slightly salty, bland, and slightly cold. It enters the
stomach and kidney systems to nourish yin deficient patterns.

**Channels:** kidney, stomach

COMMON APPLICATIONS AND CLINICAL
POSSIBILITIES:
- Dysglycemia
- Fever
- Post chemotherapy
- Cough
- Loss of vision due to age

**Formulas:**
- Di Huang Yin Zi
- Qing Shu Yi Qi Tang
- Qing Zao Run Chang Tang

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Shi Hu to patients that
present with exterior attacks (especially those with warm damp
excess) or patients that have diarrhea due to poor digestive
function with thick greasy tongue coats
