# Sheng Ma

### Cimicifugae Rhizoma

_acrid, sweet, slightly cold_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Release the Exterior for Heat Attack**_

- Swollen painful gums
- Ulcerated lips
- Canker sores
- Sore throat
- Maculae
- Sores
- Shortness of breath
- Fatigue
- Prolapse
- Spasms

Sheng Ma enters the lung, stomach, large intestine, and spleen
systems. It is acrid, sweet, and slightly cold. It is noted for its
ability to rise the sunken and its sweet characteristic is likely to
support spleen functions.

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Sheng Ma to patients
with yang rising, rebellious qi patterns in the chest or to patients
with measles after the expression of rash
