# She Gan

### Belamcandae Rhizoma

_bitter, cold_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Clears Heat and Resolves Toxicity**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Sore throat
- Phlegm
- Wheeze

She Gan is bitter and cold and only enters the lung where it has a
phlegm reducing effect. The throat is part of the lung system and

She Gan is used for sore throat or conditions of the throat
presenting with heat and swelling.

**Channels:** lung

COMMON APPLICATIONS AND CLINICAL
POSSIBILITIES:
- Pain and swelling; topically
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Wheezing
- Hyperpnea
- Acute laryngitis
- Amenorrhea

**Formulas:**
- Gan Lu Xiao Du Dan
- She Gan Ma Huang Tang

**Contraindications:** She Gan should not be prescribed to
patients that have loose stool as She Gan can irritate the
gastrointestinal tract
