# Qin Jiao

### Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix

_acrid, bitter, slightly cold_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Dispel Wind-Dampness**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:

 - Muscle cramps
 - Muscle pain
 - Joint pain
- Jaundice
- Fever
- Constipation

Qin Jiao is acrid, bitter, and slightly cold. It enters the liver and
gallbladder systems as well as the stomach. By improving the
function of the gallbladder, this herb helps patients with
constipation. The acrid and bitter characteristics help the liver
detoxify and treat such pathologies as hepatitis and systemic liver
related swelling that cause joint pain and spasms.

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Qin Jiao to patients that
have diarrhea or loose stool from poor digestive function (spleen
qi deficiency)
