# Qian Niu Zi

### Pharbitidis Semen

_acrid, bitter, cold, slightly toxic_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Harsh Expellant that Drains Downward**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Edema
- Ascites
- Cough
- Wheeze
- Fullness in the chest
- Constipation
- Parasites

Qian Niu Zi is acrid, bitter, slightly toxic, and cold. It breaks up
phlegm, mucus, dampness, and water that has accumulation and
drains it out through the urine and stool.

**Channels:** lung, small intestine, large intestine, kidney

COMMON APPLICATIONS AND CLINICAL
POSSIBILITIES:
- Edema of the lower limbs
- Severe abdominal distention
- Antiparasitic
 - Pinworms
 - Roundworms
 - Tapeworms
 - Hookworms
 - Flatworms
- Fluid accumulation in the lungs

**Formulas:**
- Mu Xiang Bing Lang Wan
- Zhou Che Wan

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Qian Niu Zi to pregnant
patients or to patients that have a weak constitution, do not
combine with Ba Dou
