# Niu Xi

### Achyranthis bidentatae Radix

_bitter, sour, neutral_

Niu Xi is bitter, sour, and neutral. It enters the liver and kidneys
systems. It’s bitter property drains out damp heat in the lower jiao
while its sour property stabilizes the liver blood and kidney
hormones to strengthen tendons, ligaments, and bones.

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Niu Xi to pregnant
