# Niu Bang Zi

### Arctii Fructus

_acrid, bitter, cold_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Release the Exterior for Heat Attacks**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Fever
- Carbuncles
- Erythema
- Mumps
- Rash
- Measles
- Constipation
- Acne

Niu Bang Zi is acrid to disperse the exterior attacks, bitter to
drain, and cold to treat heat patterns. It enters the lung and
stomach systems.
Niu Bang Zi has a special affinity for the throat and should be
considered for sore throat.

- Breast abscess
- Diuretic
- Rash
- Antimicrobial
- Dysglycemia

**Formulas:**
- Bu Fei E Jiao Tang
- Chai Hu Qing Gan Tang
- Pu Ji Xiao Du Yin
- Xiao Feng San
- Yin Qiao San

**Contraindications:** Niu Bang Zi should be prescribed
cautiously to patients that have qi deficiency, diarrhea, or with
patients that do not have excess heat patterns
