# Mu Tong

### Akebiae Caulis

_bitter, slightly cold_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Drain Dampness**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Edema
- Ascites
- Painful urination
- Mouth sores
- Scanty urination
- Inhibited lactation
- Amenorrhea
- Arthritis

Mu Tong enters the heart, small intestine, and bladder systems. It
is bitter and slightly cold. Because Mu Tong enters the heart and
is bitter, it reduces shen disturbance that present with irritability.

**Contraindications:** Mu Tong should be prescribed cautiously
with patients that are pregnant
