# Mu Dan Pi

### Moutan Cortex

_acrid, bitter, slightly cold_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Clears Heat and Cools Blood**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Epistaxis
- Menometrorrhagia
- Hematemesis
- Fever
- Abdominal masses
- Amenorrhea
- Lumps
- Trauma
- Headache
- Eye pain
- Rib side pain
- Dysmenorrhea
- Sores
- Intestinal abscess

Mu Dan Pi is acrid, bitter, and slightly cold. It enters the heart,
liver, and kidney systems to move the blood and cool it down. Mu
Dan Pi can be used symptomatically for deficiency heat patterns
such as females with menopausal hot flashes but it will need to be
combined with herb to treat the root deficiency.

It can also be used topically for sores.

**Contraindications:** Mu Dan Pi is slightly cold and should not
be prescribed to patients that have cold patterns affecting the
blood level, Mu Dan Pi should not be prescribed to pregnant
patients due to its blood moving characteristic
