# Ma Dou Ling

### Aristolochiae Fructus

_bitter, slightly cold_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Relieve Cough and Wheeze**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Coughing
- Wheezing
- Pain around anus

Ma Dou Ling is bitter and slightly cold. It enters the large
intestine and lung systems to treat cough when it’s due to heat
patterns in the lungs. It also enters the large intestines to reduce
heat that may cause pain around the anus.

**Channels:** lung, large intestine

COMMON APPLICATIONS AND CLINICAL
POSSIBILITIES:
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Wheezing
- Hemorrhoids
- Painful anus

**Formulas:**
- Bu Fei E Jiao Tang

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Ma Dou Ling to patients
in large doses or long term, do not prescribe to patients with
poor digestive function, do not prescribe to patients with cough
due to cold patterns
