#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Transform Cold Phlegm**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Lung system disorders
 - Cough
 - Wheeze
 - Sore throat
 - Aphonia
 - Lung abscess
 - Throat abscess

Jie Geng is bitter, acrid, and neutral. It enters the lung system to
treat phlegm accumulation in the upper jiao. Jie Geng can be used
with other herbs to increase their effects on the upper jiao.

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Jie Geng to patients that
present with hemoptysis especially when due to deficiency heat
