# Huang Bai

### Phillodendri Cortex

_bitter, cold_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Clear Heat and Dry Dampness**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Dysfunction of the lower jiao
 - Thick yellow vaginal discharge
 - Smelly diarrhea
 - Dysentery
 - Nocturnal emissions
 - Spermatorrhea
- Jaundice
- Leg pain
- Swollen leg, knees, or feet
- Skin lesions
- Sores

Huang Bai bitter to drain and detoxify and cold to treat patterns
involving heat. It enters the kidney and bladder systems. Its effect
is primarily on the lower jiao treating damp-heat patterns of the
intestines. It also treats gynecological issues involving damp-heat.

Huang Bai treats jaundice when its origin is damp-heat.
