# Han Fang Ji

### Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae

_acrid, bitter, cold_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Drain Dampness**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Water retention
 - Edema
 - Ascites
- Gastrointestinal disorders
 - Borborygmus
 - Abdominal distention
- Arthritis

Han Fang Ji is bitter to drain, acrid to disperse, and cold to treat
heat patterns of the bladder, spleen, and kidney systems.

**Channels:** lung, kidney, bladder

- Pain in the extremities
- Ascites
- Edema
- Gonorrhea
- Eczema
- Dysuria
- Arthritis

- Dysentery

**Formulas:**
- Fang Ji Huang Qi Tang
- Shu Jing Huo Xue Tang

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Han Fang Ji to patients
that present with yin deficiency patterns of the spleen and
stomach
