# Hai Zao

### Sargassum

_bitter, salty, cold_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Transforms Hot Phlegm**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Nodulation
 - Goiter
 - Scrofula
- Bulging disorders
- Edema

Hai Zao is bitter, salty, and cold to resolve and drain out nodules
originating from heat patterns. It enters the liver, stomach, lung,
and kidney systems.

Hai Zao is especially useful in resolving nodulation of the throat
and bulging disorders of the groin area.

**Channels:** liver, stomach, lung, kidney

- Dyslipidemia
- Hypothyroid
- Anticoagulant
- Hernias
- Swollen testicles
- Edema of the lower limbs
- Enlarged lymph glands

**Formulas:**
- Hai Zao Yu Hu Tang
- Ju He Wan
- Si Hai Shu Yu Wan

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Hai Zao with Gan Cao
