# Gua Lou Pi

### Trichosanthes Pericarpium

_sweet, cold_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Transforms Hot Phlegm**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Cough
- Breast abscess
- Chest pressure/pain

Gua Lou Pi is sweet and cold. It enters the large intestine,
stomach, and lung systems to treat hot phlegm patterns. It can
also be used to treat dry cough.

**Channels:** lung, stomach, large intestine

COMMON APPLICATIONS AND CLINICAL
POSSIBILITIES:
- Breast abscess
- Antitumor
- Angina pain
- Cough

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Guo Lou Pi with Cao
Wu, Chuan Wu, Fu Zi, Gan Jiang, or Niu Xi
