# Gou Ji

### Cibotii Rhizoma

_bitter, sweet, warm_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Tonify Yang**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Musculoskeletal degeneration
 - Weak bones
 - Weak and brittle tendons and ligaments
 - Low back pain
 - Sore and numb limbs
 - Knee pain
- Urinary incontinence
- Vaginal discharge

This herb is warm, sweet, and bitter. It enters the liver and kidney
systems. The liver blood nourishes the tendons and ligaments
which helps in patients with low back pain due to deficiency.
Gou Ji also supports adrenal and gonadal function which
contributes to tendon and ligament strength.

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Gou Ji to patients that
present with urinary heat from deficiency of yin, do not
prescribe with Bai Jiang Cao
