# Gao Ben

### Ligustici Rhizoma

_acrid, warm_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Release the Exterior for Cold Attack**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Headache
- Nasal congestion
- Abdominal pain
- Gynecological swellings

Gao Ben is acrid and warm. It enters the bladder system and du
channel to treat exterior attacks involving cold and patterns
involving dampness. Its drying effect on dampness allows it to
treat gynecological swellings.

**Channels:** bladder, du

COMMON APPLICATIONS AND CLINICAL
POSSIBILITIES:
- Vaginal discharge
- Headache
- Common cold
- Dizziness
- Pain in the joints
- Antimicrobial

**Formulas:**
- Qiang Huo Sheng Shi Tang
- Xin Yi San

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Gao Ben to patients that
present with headaches due to patterns of blood deficiency or
deficiency heat
