# Gan Sui

### Kansui Radix

_toxic, bitter, sweet, cold_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Harsh Expellant that Drains Downward**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Water retention
 - Edema of the chest
 - Facial edema
- Abdominal distention
- Seizures
- Skin sores

Gan Sui is toxic, bitter, sweet, and cold. It forces the body into
diuresis and peristalsis. It is toxic and prescription should be
limited to patients presenting with severe conditions such as
ascites. This type of patient needs to be under the care of a
medical doctor.

**Channels:** lung, kidney, large intestine

COMMON APPLICATIONS AND CLINICAL
POSSIBILITIES:
- Ascites
- Edema
- Epilepsy
- Dysuria
 - Urine retention

**Formulas:**
- Da Xian Xiong Tang
- Shi Zao Tang
- Zhou Che Wan

**Contraindications:** Gan Sui is toxic and should only be
prescribed in severe cases such as patients that have ascites, it
should never be used on a patient that is pregnant
