# Da Fu Pi

### Arecae Pericarpium

_acrid, slightly warm_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

**_Regulate Qi_**

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Gastrointestinal tract disorders
 - Epigastric and abdominal distention
 - Focal distention
 - Stifling sensation
 - Belching
 - Acid reflux
 - Indigestion
- Edema

Da Fu Pi is acrid and slightly warm. It enters the spleen, stomach,
large intestine, and small intestine systems.

Da Fu Pi is sometimes remembered as D = Damp, F = Food,
and P = Pee. For abdominal distention Hou Po is the number
herb while Da Fu Pi is the second. Lai Fu Zi might be considered
the third.

**Channels:** spleen, stomach, large intestine, small
intestine

COMMON APPLICATIONS AND CLINICAL
POSSIBILITIES:
- Bloating
- Indigestion
- Edema
- Constipation
- Nausea
- Decreased urination

**Formulas:**
- Huo Xiang Zheng Qi San
- Mu Xiang Liu Qi Yin
- Shi Pi Yin
- Wu Pi San
- Yi Jia Jian Zheng Qi San

**Contraindications:** although Da Fu Pi can be prescribed for
morning sickness it should be used very cautiously
