# Chuan Lian Zi

### Toosendan Fructus

_bitter, cold, slightly toxic_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Regulate Qi**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Pain
 - Chest pain
 - Rib side pain
- Abdominal distention
- Hernias
- Parasites
- Dermatosis

Chuan Lian Zi is bitter, slightly toxic, and cold. It enters the small
intestine, stomach, liver, and bladder systems.

Chuan Lian Zi has an important effect on the function of the
liver. It treats such patterns as bulging disorders, liver overacting
on stomach, and flank pain related to liver dysfunction.

Its antiparasitic property is noted in particular for treatment of
roundworms and tapeworms.

**Channels:** bladder, liver, small intestine, stomach

- Liver phase II
- Headache
- Abdominal pain
- Biliary congestion
 - Lower intestinal abscess

**Formulas:**
- Chen Xiang Jiang Qi Tang
- Jin Ling Zi San
- Ju He Wan
- Tian Tai Wu Yao San
- Yi Guan Jian
- Zhen Gan Xi Feng Tang

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Chuan Lian Zi to
patients with cold from deficiency
