# Bai Zhi

### Angelicae Dahuricae Radix

_acrid, warm_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Release the Exterior for Cold Attack**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESATIONS:
- Common cold
 - Exterior cold attack
- Headache
- Nasal congestion
- Periorbital pain
- Toothache
- Skin disorders
 - Sores
 - Carbuncles
 - Ulcers
 - Pus filled sores
- Vaginal discharge
 - Due to damp cold patterns

Bai Zhi is acrid and warm. It enters the lung, stomach, and spleen
systems. Bai Zhi breaks up cold and cold-damp patterns to
disperse and eliminate them. In this way it has an antimicrobial
and detoxifying effect.

Bai Zhi can be used in the treatment of common colds but also
for sores filled with pus (dampness) and vaginal discharge with
the origin is damp-cold.

**Channels:** lung, stomach, spleen

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Bai Zhi to patients that
present with deficiency heat patterns
