# Bai Qian

### Cynanchi Stauntonii Rhizoma

_acrid, sweet, salty, warm_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Transform Cold Phlegm**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Cough
 - Due to cold phlegm
- Wheezing
 - Due to cold phlegm or dysfunction of the lung
system

Bai Qian is acrid to break up phlegm, sweet to nourish the lungs,
and slightly warm to treat cold phlegm patterns of the lung
system.

**Channels:** lung

COMMON APPLICATIONS AND CLINICAL
POSSIBILITIES:
- Sore throat
- Asthma
- Wheezing
- Productive cough
 - Due to cold phlegm

**Formulas:**
- Zhi Sou San

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Bai Qian to patients that
present with unproductive cough without phlegm
