# Bai Guo

### Ginkgo Semen

_bitter, sweet, astringent, neutral, slightly toxic_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Stabilize and Bind**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Cough
 - Due to phlegm
- Wheeze
 - Due to poor brochodilating functions of the
hormone system
- Hypoadrenia
- Vaginal discharge
 - Bitter function eliminates pathogens while
stabilize and bind function treats deficiency
patterns
- Cloudy or discolored urine
 - Bitter function is detoxifying
- Excess urination
 - Stabilize and bind function for deficiency related
excess urination and dribbling

Bai Guo enters the lung and kidney. Its effect is primarily seen on
the lungs when there is a productive cough or wheeze with
phlegm that is originating from a deficiency pattern. The root
cause of the deficiency will still need to be treated by other herbs
but Bai Guo will help to stabilize the lung and reduce the
symptoms.

Its kidney function is related to adrenal gland hormones and
possibly hormones from the gonads. Its sweet property gives it a
nourishing function in this area of the body.


Bai Guo’s kidney relationship also allows it to treat urinary
disorders of incontinence with its astringent function.

**Contraindications:** Bai Guo is slightly toxic and should only
