# Bai Bu

### Stemonae Radix

_sweet, bitter, slightly warm_

#### PRIMARY FUNCTION:

_**Transform Phlegm and Stop Cough**_

CLASSICAL MANIFESTATIONS:
- Acute cough
 - Due to phlegm
 - Especially cold patterns
- Chronic cough

- Bacterial vaginosis
- Pinworm

Bai Bu is sweet, bitter, and slightly warm. It enters the lung system
to relieve cough. Its sweet nature allows Bai Bu to treat cough
especially when it is due to an underlying deficiency pattern that
results in the eventual accumulation of phlegm, which becomes an
excess pattern.

Bai Bu has a bitter property which allows it to detoxify and
eliminate harmful pathogens and parasites.

**Contraindications:** do not prescribe Bai Bu to patients that
present with poor digestive function
